FRANKLIN YOUTH HOCKEY ASSOCIATION

In-House Development Program Overview

FYHA In-House Development Program is a safe, fun and challenging on-ice program that emphasizes skating fundamentals and skill development for players ages 8 and under. It features a consistent schedule that is made up of two station-based practices and one half-ice game each week. The In-House season begins in early/mid-September and ends in March.

A primary focus of our program is player development. Our practices are station-based to help ensure a skater to coach ratio that allows for dedicated direction and attention. Throughout the course of the season, each player will also not only develop a better understanding of the game but the importance of teamwork. And most importantly, players, coaches and parents will have FUN!

All participants have the option of trying out for our 8U town travel teams. Those players whose skills are not ready for a travel team, or who voluntarily choose not to play town travel, will automatically be part of the In-House Development Program.

Our program follows USA Hockey’s American Development Model (ADM), which allows for:

  • More touches of the puck;
  • More shooting, passing and scoring opportunities;
  • More changes in direction (improving skating drills);
  • More action for goaltenders (increased shots on net); and
  • Less stoppage of play – which means more game action and FUN.

FYHA recognizes that families register their child/ren to play youth hockey for different reasons, whether it’s trying a new sport, winter recreation or laying the foundation for a future in the game of hockey. Regardless, FYHA will satisfy it all!
