Welcome to the Franklin Youth Hockey Learn to Skate information page.
FYHA's popular Learn to Skate Program has been recognized by Mass Hockey as the model for which all hockey organizations should base their Learn to Skate programs. Learn to Skate will be broken up into three 9-week sessions. Each session will be $125.
Session 1 will be held at the Franklin rink at 12noon starting on Sunday, September 19th.
This program focuses on skating skills only. The rink will be divided into three groups: beginner, intermediate, and advanced. Each child will be advanced to the next group by on-ice instructors as their skating skills improve.
Beginners – This group is intended for early skating development. Basic skills will be taught. Backward skating and crossovers will be introduced.
Intermediate – Skating skills such as glide turns, several stopping methods, backward skating, edge control, and transitions will be taught.
Advanced – Skating skills will be reinforced and basic hockey skating skills will be introduced.
Equipment Required for Learn to Skate: The following is required for all levels: Skates, certified hockey helmet with face guard, gloves/mittens (should be water resistant), kneepads and elbow pads are required. It is suggested that kneepads be worn under the child’s pants.
